[00:02.210] I walked through a county courthouse square,
[00:05.770] On a park bench an old man was sitting there.
[00:09.020] I said, "Your old courthouse is kinda run down."
[00:12.260] He said, "Naw, it'll do for our little town."
[00:16.240] I said, "Your old flagpole has leaned a little bit,
[00:19.360] And that's a Ragged Old Flag you got hanging on it."
[00:22.480] He said, "Have a seat." and I sat down.
[00:26.660] "Is this the first time you've been to our little town?"
[00:30.170] I said, "I think it is." He said, "I don't like brag,to
[00:34.780] But we're kinda proud of that Ragged Old Flag.
[00:40.950] "You see, we got a little hole in that flag there
[00:44.140] When Washington took it across the Delaware.
[00:48.710] And it got powder-burned the night Francis Scott Key
[00:53.200] Sat watching it writing 'Say Can You See'.
[00:58.440] And it got a bad rip in New Orleans
[01:02.380] With Packingham and Jackson tuggin' at its seams.
[01:06.870] "And it almost fell at the Alamo
[01:09.860] Beside the Texas flag, but she waved on though.
[01:16.100] She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville,
[01:19.850] And she got cut again at Shiloh Hill.
[01:23.090] There was Robert E. Lee, Beauregard, and Bragg,
[01:26.400] And the south wind blew hard on that Ragged Old Flag.
[01:33.010] "On Flanders Field in World War I,
[01:36.510] She got a big hole from a Bertha gun.
[01:40.190] She turned blood red in World War II...
[01:43.180] She hung limp and low a time or two.
[01:49.300] She was in Korea and Vietnam;
[01:52.290] She went where she was sent by her Uncle Sam.
[01:56.220] "She waved from our ships upon the briny foam,
[01:59.660] And now they've about quit waving her back here at home.
[02:04.810] In her own good land here she's been abused --
[02:08.050] She's been burned, dishonored, denied, and refused.
[02:12.290] "And the government for which she stands
[02:15.290] Is scandalized throughout the land.
[02:18.290] And she's getting threadbare, and she's wearing thin,
[02:21.030] But she's in good shape for the shape she's in.
[02:25.400] 'Cause she's been through the fire before
[02:29.270] And I believe she can take a whole lot more.
[02:32.570] "So we raise her up every morning, we take her
[02:35.420] down every night.
[02:37.040] We don't let her touch the we ground, foldand
[02:38.840] her up right.
[02:43.270] On second thought, I do like to brag,
[02:47.830] 'Cause I'm mighty proud of that Ragged Old Flag."
